| Thanks very much chaps. I'm not sure what to do about both greens. The light green doesn't look as bad in 'real life', and I think I can tone it down some more. If not, tough - I aint starting again, or it will clog all the detail and be too heavy. But that dark green b****y Humbrol paint! There is no way the paint in the tin is the same as the colour on the lid! When first applied it had a distinct yellowish tinge and was too light. Now, with just a touch of black added, it looks too brown! Again, it looks better in 'real life', but it is already too thick and has obscured some detail. No matter what I did to spray it, it wouldn't dry! The only way it would dry was to brush-paint it, and it doesn't thin-out and settle, or cover as Humbrol paints used to! Ah well! I'm going to have to put up with it, and definitely change to a different paint of some sort. Maybe I'll have to accept the limitations of acrylics after all. |

| Senior Member | !!! I probably would have walked out with one of the Ju 88s, as I know the price of the Dora. And yeah, I'm with Dan, you can get MM out there? That's all I use for RLM colours.

| Thanks for the encouragement chaps, it is much appreciated, and somewhat needed! I believe Model Master paints are available in the UK, but I haven't seen them locally. Unfortunately, where I live, although not exactly remote, is not really convenient (for me) for the larger towns, or Manchester. We're a bit in 'the sticks', and the most modern appliances are the new fangled gas lamps in the streets; and we've heard that someone near by has bought one of those horse less carriage contraptions! But seriously, it's not quite that bad, but you get the idea. I'm going to ask my local model shop to try to stock an alternative to Tamiya and Humbrol paints, otherwise my only option is mail order - fine for kits and decals etc, but not really convenient for consumables. I fancy a Revell Hunter at the ModelZone price of £9.99, as posted by Ian Lanc, and who does the 1/24th 'Dora', and how much? Very interesting! Anyway, I bit the bullet, rubbed down the paint on the wings, and started again. I mixed the colours using different paints, from my 'old' Humbrol stock and, although probably not 100% accurate, it's looking a bit better, and I should get some toning effects done later tonight, and hopefully get it clear-coated. Maybe even get some decals on! I'll post some progress pics soon but, if you hear strange noises in the night (or day, in Oz and NZ), it's only me throwing my Teddy in the corner, and kicking the s**t out of some plastic and paint tins! |
