    **** DONE: 1/48 Me 262A-1a - Me/ Fw Group Build.

    Username: Vic Balshaw
    First name: Vic
    Category: Judge – Non competing
    Scale: 1/48
Manufacturer: Dragon Kit Number 5515 – Me 262A-1a Nachtjäger.
    Model Type: Me 262A-1a Nachtjäger 'VO56' - W.Nr. 170056 experimental night-fighter.

Extras: Mostly OOB which has etched detail included with the kit plus some selected resin detail from the Verlinden 1387 detail set and minimal scratch building.

For my second entry into GB 10 I will attempt to duplicate this interesting Me 262 with a ground crew and a Kettenkraftrad and power supply trolley if time permits.

References: Modelling the Messerschmitt Me 262 Book – Osprey Modelling.

With the Luftwaffe night-fighter force in the second half of 1944 unable to oppose the offensive of RAF Bomber Command Oberst Hajo Herrmann of J.G. 300 advocated the use of the Me 262A as a night-fighter. Along with Oberleutnant Behrens of the E-Stelle Rechlin test centre a single seat Me 262A-1a was fitted with the FuG 220 Lichtenstein S.N.2 intercept radar and trialled. Some sources attribute this initiative to Oberleutnant Kurt Welter. The success of these trail prompted the conversion of three Me 262A trainers to the role of 'Nachtjäger' which were redesignated as Me 262B-1a/U1. The original Me 262A-1a, Code VO56 - W.Nr. 170056 remained a test airframe and it is in this role that I'm depicting this build supported by a number of photographs that have been sourced through the internet.

No sweat my friend, four months hard slog and then two months holiday touring the world, what could be better.

With all that resin that kit should be very well detailed right out of the box. I'm sure it will look beautiful with you putting it together Vic.
