A 'Friedriech' is always nice. As for the build, I'm particulary interested in how you will go about putting on this kite's winter coat, on top of what I take will be the regular RLM74/75/76 camo of the day. Might be tempted to take out the exact same kit, albeit in a revell box, and give a winter camo a try as well.

I'm not reading it as having a winter coat Jelmer. Looks like just a very light scan of the profile actually. If someone finds pics of this rig (I have not found any) it should prove it out. I don't fully trust Kagero books 100% but the profile shown in the first post appears on the back of their JG 52 Vol II book and supposedly has this aircraft as Steinhoff's at 3 December 1941 while he was in the Stab II/JG52. In the same book, on page 51, there appears the below picture (whihc I got at Falkeins' website of supposedly an F-2 "White 1" also stated to belong to Steinhoff at the same airfield at the same time while he was Staka of 4/JG51.

I'm trying to find a chronology of Steinhoff's command around this time but it seems hard to find. Maybe someone here has more info.

Jelmer, although this one may not involve winter camo, I did do one for a Bf 110C a while back which you can see here (Eduard 1/48 Bf-110C) with explanations on how I did it.

Ah, my bad . The bright scan + the date mentioned in the caption made me think it had some sort of raggedy make-shift winter camo to it... your 110 with winter camo thread looks to be a helpful guide as to how to achieve a winter camo though Certainly will keep it in mind when I get to it.

A slow start to this one. Still recovering from jet lag so no energy after work. And then tomorrow it's off to the mountains for 3 days of skiing. Back Monday.

    OK, here we go.

As with most ICM kits, we get a bevy of detail on this one. I've decided to display this model with one side of the engine cowl opened up to show the nicely detailed engine that's been provided. First, however, I had to do away with these molded spark plug wires and harnesses.

    **** DONE: 1/48 Bf109F-4 J.Steinhoff - Your Favorite Aircraft of All Time GB-120225-bare-engine.jpg

With the ignition wires filed off, the basic engine was assembled:

Next, we have the basic cockpit bits glued together. The seat pan has had the edges thinned somewhat.

    **** DONE: 1/48 Bf109F-4 J.Steinhoff - Your Favorite Aircraft of All Time GB-120225-pit.jpg

The cockpit, firewall, and engine are now assembled together and set aside in preparation for addition of details.

    **** DONE: 1/48 Bf109F-4 J.Steinhoff - Your Favorite Aircraft of All Time GB-120225-full-engine-pit.jpg

Owing to previous experience with my ICM Spit IX, I went ahead and dry-fitted the major pieces together to see if there would be any fit issues. Looks to me that there should not be any major issues.

    **** DONE: 1/48 Bf109F-4 J.Steinhoff - Your Favorite Aircraft of All Time GB-120225-trial-fot.jpg

The wheel wells on this model will be modified as, although I don't have confirming photo evidence on Steinhoff's plane, the majority of production F-4's had the circular wheel wells so I will opt to make this modification here.

    **** DONE: 1/48 Bf109F-4 J.Steinhoff - Your Favorite Aircraft of All Time GB-wells-before.jpg

As a start, bits of card have been glued to the edges of the wells and then the circle marked which will be then cut to shape.

    **** DONE: 1/48 Bf109F-4 J.Steinhoff - Your Favorite Aircraft of All Time GB-120225-well-rounds.jpg

That's it for now. More tomorrow hopefully.

Yep, skied for 3 straight days and came back Monday. Engine details are juts screaming to be enhanced. There's a lot that's not there yet.
