    Wooden Frigate L'Hermione under Construction

    Hi everyone,

Since we talked about the frigate L'Hermione in this thread ...

    http://www.ww2aircraft.net/forum/180...vies-9680.html (Napoleonic Wars navies....)

... here are some photographs I shot a couple of years back (which I freshly imported into my digital archive today).

    Regards,

    Henning (HoHun)

Good picture HoHun, thanks for sharing! I'll never forget my visit there. On the 6th pic, you'll notice the very long buildings, thats where they used tp make the ropes for rigging. I can't wait to see L'Hermione sail!

    Hi Arsenal,

    >Good picture HoHun, thanks for sharing!

Glad you like them! I really admire the French way of doing large-scale reconstructions - must be the Viollet Le Duc tradition, I guess

    >On the 6th pic, you'll notice the very long buildings, thats where they used tp make the ropes for rigging.

In the buildings or on the floor between? I knew La Corderie Royale was an important part of the Rochefort Arsenal ...

The Reeperbahn in Hamburg, famous today for other attractions , originally served the same purpose "Reep" (Low German) = "rope" (English)

However, I only recently learned that a Ropemaker's Alley usually had weather protection at least in rainy Germany ... so maybe my old impression that the French cordmakers worked out in the open was wrong. Must have been the great weather we had!

    >I can't wait to see L'Hermione sail!

That will be a great sight for sure! When is she expected to be finished?

    Regards,

    Henning (HoHun)
