Anyone have info on the colours of this interesting camo scheme, Black (Red?) 8 of ?/JG54 flown by Fritz Tegtmeier? He was with 2 staffel so perhaps red 8?

That's a tough one Andy....need to look at some other reference....

Possible 71 or 70 over 02....could even be 70 or 71 over 79 as some aircraft destined for the MTO were sent to the Eastern front. More likely the 71/02 type camo though...

I've got a profile of 'Black 12' from the same unit, showing a modified scheme painted over the MTO scheme. I'll scan and post it later.

Don't think so. That pattern, although unique to JG 54, didn't extend over the wings like in the photo.

Terry, after reseraching more after I posted, I believe I encountered the profile you're refering to. Let me know if what you have is different than the one below.

There's one post on this over at LEMB where the thought is as follows (quote from a chap named Goran - Thanks!): " Regarding camouflage of the 2./JG 54 '109' "Black 8" I can add that in 'Jagdwaffe Vol 3 Sec 2 Page 149 there is a colour profile and photo of "Black 12" of the same unit. Another photo of this aircradft is found on Page 62 in Prien et al Vol 9/III. Comparing with the photo posted by Chris on this thread it is posible that "Black 8" has a variation of the camouflage seen on "Black 12": 74/75/76 scheme modified with mottles in 79, 02 and 70 - according to Jagdwaffe Vol 3 Sec 2 that is!. Complicated to get right on a model!"

Yep, looks like the same profile Andy, one of a 3-view set shown in the Kagero 'Top Drawings' book on the '109F.
The caption states that the original RLM 74/75/76 has been modified with heavy mottling of RLM 02/70/79.

Thanks Terry. Might make this my Eastern Front GB.

Can you confirm the spinner colours? White all around or did it have pie slices of other colours?

Been wondering if you're researching this for a possible GB entry Andy. Would be a challenging job though...

Spinner white overall. I'll e-mail the other sections of the profiles later tonight, as going out now.

Sounds like good advice on the colours. Here are a couple of JG54 109s on the eastern front.

    Thanks, good pics.

Igor, yes I'm thinking of subjects for the Eastern Front GB.

Terry, thanks, that would be great!
