Looking for 1/48 scale Tempest Decals of S/L David Fairbanks RAF 274 Squadron

Hi Guy's hoping someone can help me.

I am looking for decals for David "Foob" Fairbanks Tempest while he flew for either No. 274 or No. 3 Squadron RAF.

Fairbanks is an interesting person. He was born in Ithaca, NY, joined the RCAF at 18, flew for the RAF then returned to Canada after the war where he became a test pilot and Canadian citizen.

Or get a set of RAF Code Letter decals, and a set of Serial Number decals, at not much more cost than a dedicated sheet, and you'll have enough for a whole squadron !

Thanks Terry. I have asked this question before about generic RAF letter decals and serial numbers but did not get a reply as to what manufacturer or where to get them.
Can you suggest such an alternative?

    Dave.

There are a couple around, and the sheets I have are Xtradecal (same packaging as what used to be Microscale/Superscale) through Hannant's. (look in Aircraft decals, required scale, RAF Code letters, and you should find them.)
They are available in the various sizes in the three main scales, and, depending on scale, there are normally four of each letter per sheet, with more on the serial number sheets. The latter, of course, can easily be made on the computer and printed onto clear decal sheet as and when required, which also means it's easier to apply them, as they'll be a single decal, rather than individual letters and numbers.

    cheers,

The generic decal set from Hannants came in which was nice to see. Did they change their ordering policy because I had not ordered from them in about year and a half and back then they had a min order $ value. This time I ordered 2 decal sets which is a small order and they accepted it. Must of done away with the min order requirement.

Also, this arrived in the mail yesterday.

Looking forward to building it but it will have to wait as I just the got the news from my Doctor that I fractured 2 lumbar vertebrae in my back. Talk about pain wow. Have never felt anything like that before.

    Hey CR,

I am doing better, my original medication which was prescribed by a walk in clinic doctor had only a small bit of painkilling medication. I was unable to walk or stand for any length of time so I waited until I could do so, at least long enough to walk to the car and take a wheelchair into to my doctors office. I now have some fairly strong painkillers so I am feeling better but it will be 4 to 6 weeks until I am healed. The fractures are compression fractures which essentially is a crushing of the vertebrae which can seen on a x-ray as vertebrae with a dip or scallop appearance along the top of the vertebrae. The L1 is worse than the L3 as it has dips in both the top and bottom. Funny thing is the L3 which is just above my hip bones is the most painful, probably because most of my upper body weight is bearing down in that area. Anyway, I going to see a sports injury specialist and hoping I can get a back brace to allow me to be a bit more mobile. I want to get back on the bench as I am itching to get at the new tempest I received.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

Yep, hope it heals quickly. I know the feeling, as 'old' parachuting back injuries still bother me at times, more so because of RA.
far as I know, for 'overseas' orders at Hannant's there is no minimum order for decals - in fact, in the UK, I believe they are sent post free.

    Wurger and Terry,

Thanks for the well wishes. Looking forward to getting back on the bench and completing some projects and starting some new ones.

Hannants is a cool site Lots of stuff for aircraft. The shipping to Canada was pretty reasonable so I am going to keep them in mind for my aircraft kit needs. Sprue Brothers in the U.S. is also good but they don't have the decal PE and resin selection that Hannants have.

    Cheers,
    Dave.
