Hi,
According to info I found in one book about Luftwaffe colours,up to November 1941 when the instruction L.Div 521 determined directly and accurately colours of cockpit interior and other parts af an a/c,the interior paints depended on elements and materials that they were made of.For instance: before 1937 the interior of an engine cowling had the galvanized metal tonality, later it was painted with RLM 02 colour. What is more, looking from an engine direction, the fire cross-section wasn't painted at all,but from the cockpit side the fire partition was coloured with grey-green RLM 02.If I find something else I'll write there.

regards,

Talking Captured USAAF aircraft in Luftwaffe

I do remember seeing a web site or two that dealt with Captured USAAF aircraft that were r"re-flagged" in Luftwaffe markings.

Was a P-40 ever captured by the Luftwaffe? And, is there a website that has pictures of such an aircraft?

Inspection and warning placards

Great forum! Can anyone direct me to information on inspection and warning placards? The triangular labels that were painted on various parts of Luftwaffe aircraft. Looking for descriptions or photos of the various types and placement. I'm particulalry interested in labels for the Ju87, but any similar Luft labels would do. Thanks.

Quick list of RLM colors.

RLM Colors

A challenging aspect of modeling late-war Luftwaffe aircraft such as the Me 262 is rendering the color scheme. The following list provides most of the RLM colors which were used on Luftwaffe aircraft and a FS 595a equivalent. Please keep in mind that limitations of the FS color system preclude an exact match in all cases and should be considered approximations.

RLM # Namen Name FS 595a equivalent
02 Grau (gray) FS 36165
04 Gelb (yellow) FS 23538
21 Weiss (white) FS 37886
22 Schwarz (black) FS 37038
23 Rot (red) FS 31136
24 Dunkelblau (dark blue) FS 25053
25 Hellgrun (bright green) FS 34115
26 Braun (brown) FS 30109
27 Gelb (yellow) FS 33655
65 Hellblau (bright blue) FS 35414
66 Schwarzgrau (black-gray) FS 36081
70 Schwarzgrun (black-green) FS 34050
71 Dunkelgrun (dark green) FS 34079
72 Graun (green) FS 34056
73 Grun (green) FS 34092
74 Graugrun (gray-green) FS 36801
75 Grauviolett (gray-violet) FS 36122
76 Lichtblau (light blue) FS 36473
77 Lichtgrau (light gray) FS 36492
78 Hellblau (bright blue) FS 35414
79 Sandgelb (sand yellow) FS 30215
80 Olivgrun (olive-green FS 34052
81 Braunviolett (brown-violet) FS 34087
82 Hellgrun (bright green) FS 34138
83 Dunkelgrun (dark green) FS 34083
99 Gelbgrun (yellow-green) FS 34227

I always wondered why the LW had so many camo patterns while the allies had a only basic Desert, Atlanic, and the OD over gray?
