| Registration F4U-1 crashed in Rabaul Jan.20, 1944 Dear Members, Is it possible that anyone help me to find the registration of a F4U-1 Corsair who was crashed in Rabual in the Pacific on January 20, 1944? The pilot of that plane was Maj.M.R.McCown he was stationed by VMF-321 US Marine Corps. I hope you have so enough information about this airplane and his pilot. You can send your information to my personal mail address a.vdbijl2@chello.nl. Thank you very much for your support. With greetings, Mr.Abe v.d.Bijl, The Netherlands. |

| Hi Abe, I'm afraid I can't help with your search, but there are people here who might be able to. I would advise that you remove your private address, to prevent 'spam' messages or other annoying rubbish. Terry.

| There were three VMF-321 F4U-1's lost over Rabaul on 20 Jan 1944, BuNo's 17914, 55835, and 17448. McCown, whom I believe at the time was a captain, was in 17448. The other two pilots were 1LT R H Brindos and 1LT R W Marshall, respectively.
