Squadron eagle

I was wondering about the eagle on the front of Squadron/Signal books. I've seen a Fw-190 profile with it on the fuselage.

It has always been my impression that the "Squadron" eagle was a copy of the one found on several 190's

[Airframes]

Originally thought to be a stylised way of covering the area on FW190s where exhaust staining was prevalent. A similar pattern has also been seen on JG26 birds. If it has any specific meaning, then it's more likely to be a 'Butcher Bird', rather than eagle.
