    MK.22 PK481 pictures needed

I am finishing my MK.22 and don't have room for this one if I build a series I am planning of the Yorktown planes from '42 thru to the F9F. I want to see if the museum at Mildura would want it for display if I mark it as the only MK.22 brought over to Aus for the museum in W.A. to the RAAFA museum, which is PK481.

By the way, if you happen to be passing thru Mildura it is WELL worth the time to stop in at the airport! The only pictures I can locate of PK481 are on the museum website that don't show side view.

I can see on the bottom of the starboard wing the part of the 481 but need more detail to be accurate. Cuz if I show it here, I better have it right.

So if anyone here has ANY pictures at all that could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bill

Just saw on another forum PK481 was RAauxAF "RAR-D" if this helps.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST what I needed!!!!!!!!!!!!! Couldn't even have asked for anything better!!!!!!!! Do I sound as happy as I am????????? I have been looking for an Aussie MK.22 since I got the kit and had just found this one on the web a couple of days ago. Isn't this site just the most amazing tool. To find this plane and then someone gonna visit the same place and to volunteer to go out of their way for you. I am just shaking my head. Thank you mate! cheers, Bill

Now I just have to find decals to match. will look at the kit see what I need. I will be posting the results on the thread "lord help my MK.22 how shakey can one get".

    Yes Andy

I did take some happy snaps of their newly restored Wirraway. They covered one side in transparent plastic so you can see the controls. I'll start another thread for these.

    Cheers

Don't mention it - I was going there anyways to catch up with a few people and check out anything new in the photo lab.

The photos have created a question, are the markings of the correct style. Am I being a little tooooo picky? I have been sent an image of a decal sheet o the later Spitfire type, rounded numbers and letters. But, looking at the photos of the PK481 museum plane, they are the older style, cut corner rectangle style. Every picture of a MK.22 I have found uses round style. So, looks like someone in the finishing department of PK481 isn't a pedantic as model builders? Now I'm wondering what I should do! Should I go with the museum piece, or do the accurate style?

Non the less, I will be asking if some one here can part with the "481" in round or square in a 12mm high and 3mm high to complete the numbers. I have found I will be paying about $16.00+ AU for each size sheet. Any help is always appreciated. cheers, bill

Both styles could be used, especially if the aircraft had a re-paint, and even a stencil-break character was used.
Generally, the Black underwing serials were 'square' style, with the fuselage serials rounded, mainly stencil break, on the Mk22, which served with the R.Aux.A.F. only.
The confusion might be from the Mk24, in one R.A.F. squadron only (80 Sqn, code W2) which used rounded style on underside of wing and side of fuselage.
Sorry, unable to help with the decal size you need. But, as they're black, they're fairly easy to produce on a PC printer, using clear decal sheet.

Agree with Terry...research on PR.XIX PS888 shows that while there were rules, they were by no means followed to the letter. PS888 had rounded underwing serials, for example, though technically they should have been square...

Anyway, if you go rounded, I've got your underwing serials sorted, 12.5 x 8 mm. These do?
