Help ID this plane

This picture was taken by my uncle in california maybe late thirties? Again I don't know. the Back of the picture said "here is another Pic of "the" plane" He was in the navy at the time and think he was involved with this plane some how.

It's not a Miles - it looks like it has an opposed engine.
