| Help with identification, please and TIA I found these photos in a old WW II book. I am curious about the type of planes being shown. Anyone who can identify them, I would sure appreciate the help. Thanks again, Bernoulli planes front view.bmp 17224 fighter side view.bmp 15931 #31, top view older.bmp 13724 #4 fighter.bmp 113601 B & W.bmp |

| I think the first pic doesn't show P-47 it think it's the Vultee A-31 Vengenance. The P-47 is the early version of the fighter called " razorback". The P-51 is A version armed with 20mm cannons. The P-40 seems to be F version.

| Yeap you are correct! It is a A-31 Vengeance. I confused myself with the shape of the cowling. The wings should have given it away! Good catch there!

| Pic number 4 is a P-51A (ID'd by the intake on the top of the cowl)

| "Shooter" ![]() | According to the S/N database, the Mustang was delivered to the USAAF as a P-51-2. Good call on the P-40, Wojtek, it is indeed an F model. |

| Thanks, I'm impressed and grateful. Thanks for all the help, if you need a lift calculation, my arithmetic skills are pretty good. That would be my greatest contribution to this forum. I also have and continue to build large collections from WW II. Primary interest is 30th infantry Div. and the 105th inf. Bn. I have some of the Third Reich artifacts. Their medals kind of put ours to shame, design wise. Hitler, to me, wouldn't do well in todays society. Most of what he said would not be politically correct. Especially women, most would object to his feeling of women lacking logic. Better yet, women were innately born without the capacity to understand intellectual content. One thing, he never fails to express his views. I am glad he is no longer with us. Thanks again, Daniel Bernoulli Last edited by Wurger; 04-26-2009 at 04:40 PM. Reason: Merged thread.... |
