No, not the direct results of 'perverted german science', however the american hummingbird project of ww2, inspired by early german designs.
Ok, i dont know if there were more than 1, but 4 looks more impressive..... also heres the link for the image i started off with.

EDIT: p.s. sorry the image is a bit big... didnt want to lose any quality. oh, and im no big plane buff, and i dont really know WHERE the designs came from... all i know is that i like the idea. take off vertically.... fly away into the night!
