This is Lt Theodore G. Ellyson, Naval Aviator #1 seated in a Curtiss 'grasscutter' a low powered 4-cylinder trainer version of the early pusher series. 1910, quite possibly the first '13' airplane?
14. Avoid that destructive disease known as "tinkeritis;" when the motor is working satisfactorily, leave it alone.
