| A Spitfire question Hi all. Some years ago, Flyvestation Værløse in Denmark held their last airshow before the place was closed, and this Spitfire, among others, did some air show display. The date was June 9th, 2002. I'm curious about the history of the plane, whether it's a replica or what, and I'm also looking for facts about the owners and pilots, Mk/year/etc., so any help will be appreciated, as I think it could be fun to make it as a model.

| She's owned by the Old flying Machine Company and is a proven WW2 combat vet. At the time of your show, she was probably being flown by the Master himself, Ray Hanna (RIP). sadly Ray is no longer with us but his displays in MH434 where nothing short of bl**dy brilliant. It could be great to find out, I could try to write the OFMC and ask them, and maybe even get the DVD about Mk IX MH434 that's mentioned in the facts on the OFMC homepage. | Then and almost now. The yellow spinner is for the Breitling Fighter Team, not authentic. 222 Squadron March 1944, Hornchurch. Note the torpedo long-range tank. |

| They're closing Vaerlose? I spent some time there, about 5 weeks if I recall, long time ago though. We staged from Ringsted. We were treated one morning to an F-15 Eagle screaming down the runway, undercart up and a whisker off the deck and then hauling it up into a vertical where he disappeared into the clouds like a rocket. |

Flyvestation Værløse had a lot of the area's activities moved to Karup in april 2004, and the place was closed down in may 2005, while the remaining activities moved to other areas and departments in the danish air force. In march 2007 it was decided to preserve the area, and the local glider club has it's activities and base there. It must've been quite an experience to watch that F-15 take off...I wish I had seen that.

| Hi again Maria. Judging by the limited view of the head in the cockpit of MH434 in your pic, I'd say that was Ray 'The Master'. Shame Vaerlose has closed. I was there in '95, during the anniversary celebrations I told you about, when we were entertained by the RDanAF. One of the WW2 Mossie pilots told us an amusing story about the hangar opposite the one we were in, which I'll relate when I send you the other stuff. The day we were there, the BAe Mosquito was supposed to have overflown Copenhagen, to mark the occasion,then positioned at Vaerlose, but weather back in the UK prevented it getting airborne. (Sadly, it crashed, killing the crew, at my local Flying Club a couple of years later). The Norwegian P51 was also supposed to have been present to give a display over the base, then land so that the veterans present who had flown the escorting Mustangs on the raid, including the renowned 'Jas' Storrar, and Baron M. Donet, could have a close look. But again, weather prevented this happening. I'll send a few more details with the rest of the stuff.
