B-17

The maximum bomb load of the Y1B-17 was 8000lbs. I understand that the maximum bomb load of the B-17B was 8 x 600lb bombs (i.e. a total of 4800lbs). Is it correct that the B-17B maximum bomb load was less than that of the earlier Y1B-17?

Start figuring on the extra .50 cals for defense and the weight of turrets, fittings, ammunition, oxygen bottles, and extra crew etc.

Reduces the max bomb load because of the extra weight incurred.

The B-17B and the Y1B-17 were both armed with 5 x 0.30MGs.

I thought it was 8x500lbs? 4000 total. Probably has alot to do with the range of the mission.
