I read a mention of a Russian flying tank somewhere. Does anybody have any information on that or is it just made up?

No it's not made up. There is a picture of it on the forum somewhere.

The aircraft that is some time referred to as the flying tank due to it being so heavily armored is the IL-2 Sturmovik. Picture below

They also had the 'Fleep' - the Hafner experimental jeep with a tail structure and helicopter rotor
