need some info on the PBY-5A "black cat"

ok, im new here, i think i put this in the right place but if i diddent would a mod or admin please kindly move it to the correct location.

anyhow, i am looking to build a diorama based off a model kit of a PBY-5A "Black Cat" and just wanted to know if those..uh handle things, that are on the engines are manual starting cranks? if so does anyone have any more information on them? such as what direction they would be turned when they would be used ect?
