Oxygen candles question in WWII

Dear friends:

As you must know, I'm a fan of submarines in WWII. More months ago, I read a notice about of an accident in a British Nuclear Submarine on his system of air purification. Follow this link and you read about this:

If you read carefully, when the incident is explained, the reason are inherent at the use of the clorathe candles, who produce oxigen for the submarine crew. And the use of this for the crews of the high cota bombardiers in the WWII.

Do you explain this system?

Know you if this system are used also for german aircrafts?

And german submarines?
