Can anyone tell me about the turbocharged BMW 801 powered Fw190. This Fw190 had the turbo charger right behind the engine.
 
P-47s remained in service for a very long time after the war, in some of the south American afs. The Peruvian af kep them until 1966. they were very capable beasts, but I never realized just how massive they were. They were not cheap, at $85000 US per copy in 1945.

In a front view you can see how much fuselage the ducting takes up by the location of the wing and also the round of the engine. Without its cowl, the P-47's big radial looks quite small bolted onto the front.
