Aircraft ID

Recently located an old photo of an airplane taken by my father during WWII in the Pacific – maybe in the Carolinas. He was in the 13th US Army Air Corps from 1942-1945.

The plane has:

Two engines.
Landing gear below the engine is supported on both sides of the wheel.
Landing gear under the tail.
The propellers have three blades.
There is an access hatch under the fuselage with a ladder.
Over the engines are intake ducts / radiators.
Outboard of the engine is a round “intake vent” built into the leading edge of the wing.
The nose of the plane appears to be “smooth” metal - nothing protruding, no glass.

The picture is old and faded and I'm concerned it may be damaged if I try to reproduce it.

Anyone have any idea what kind of plane this might be?

Thanks

Sounds like a Beaufighter. Does it look like this.

No. That's not it. The plane has twin engines. A friend thought it might be a DC3 or other transport but that wasn't it either.

Thanks for the help.

Sorry. You may be right. Your first photo didn't show up at first.

No worries, any chance you could scan the pic? Being an Australian aircraft I have great interest in it.

I'll see what I can do. The photo is fading and I don't want to damage it further. Give me a day or two.
