Looks like a repeat of any code letters (call sign) used on the fuselage. This was fairly common prcatice with 'large' aircraft, to aid ground handling crews, and is still in use today, particularly with civil airliners, where the last two, or three letters of the registration will be repeated on the nose or nosewheel doors.
