Death of John L. Smith.

I was surfing around looking for information on Guadalcanal ace Capt. John L. Smith, and was shocked to find out he committed suicide in 1972. The article said he was depressed over being laid off a defense industry job.

How sad! Anybody have any other information about this American hero?

When you think about it, much has been written about Guadalcanal aces Joe Foss, Joe Bauer, Jeff DeBlanc, Marion Carl, etc., but you never read much of anything about John L. Smith. I wonder why that is?

The Channel runs the series "Dogfights." Last night's episode featured the "Cactus Arforce" and John L. Smith...
