The smooth finish of the Mosquito is not entirely due to its wooden construction, but rather its covering of doped fabric.

Actually, it is, and while the mandapolam fabric covering did provide a smooth surface, it's fabric. It mimics the structure beneath. If the wood suffered undulations, the fabric would do the same.
