Flame Arresters

We recently found some flame arresters in an aircraft parts dump site. I'm looking for information on which types of WWII Navy aircraft could they have been used on? My guess is TBM Avenger.

I would say your guess is right on. Take a look at this photo. The top one I believe is for the same aircraft. Ive seen it before but not sure where.

Outstanding Picture! Thanks for the picture of the TBM with flame arrester. That is exactly what I was looking for. Anyone have any idea when they were first used?

I think the top flame arrester is from a PBY Catilina. I found a story about how VP-11 installed flame arresters and painted their aircraft black for night fighting. Now if I could only find a picture of a flame arrester installed on a PBY.

I also just found a picture of a flame arrestor on a PBY aircraft. It does not match the first photo in the question above. I guess I'll keep looking for other types of Navy aircraft that might have a flame arrestor between 1942-1948. Thanks for the help so far.

That site is very good! I have a 1:18 scale Avenger painted like that. I knew it was Atlantiv, but didn't know where or what it would be used for.
