Fw 189 was used as a auxiliary night fighter on the Eastern front. It was equipped with radar and armed with an upward firing cannon (but strange enough without any forward firing armament). Not sure about the Stuka in Nachtjagdgruppen though.

the Ju 87 D-3 and D-5 equipped the NSGr's not the NJG's with single and twin engine night fighters.

there were no D-7 or D-8 variants as described in many books; after the D-3 and D-5 there was posted a (N) meaning Nacht in official designations.

Possibly the 87's were used as hacks. A pretty useless aircraft as a nightfighter...

Have to be a hack, they're too slow to be a pathfinder...

Unless they were using the Stuka as an interceptor for the nightly U-2 overflights...

Ju 87's were never used as NF's. probably not even a hack might be for an easy spin for some high ranking pilot of stab transport.....utter baloney/wurst to accept that they were used for anything else. also the worthless Fw 189 was to be used by NJG 100 to catch the bi-planes of the Night bitches on the Ost front but even then were worthless although slow and as indicated another transprot craft for personell of which it was ideally suited and for night recon over Soviet positions

Could those Stuka's have been used for night harrassment(?) operations?

He 111's were used for training operators to use the AI radar. There's a few pictures of one equipped for it in another thread.

@ Lucky..already mentioned. Note "NSGr" in Erich's previous posts.

Jan that is ok as it is very confusing.........

yes the He 111 was used by the training Schulen for each one of the NJG's until it came to just one operational unit. NJG 101 and 102 were also used for training pilots on tactics but also for the radar crewmen which the He 111 was perfect. you've see the use of the FuG 218 Neptun off the nose of an He 111 correct ?
