| The XP-57 I would have liked to have seen this plane go into production for two reasons: it is a cool looking plane (kind of looks like something batman would have had) and because McDonnel was the contractor and I am from St. Louis. I think they should have tried putting turbocharged Allisons on the plane and compared it to the P-38. As the P-38 is my favorite plane, the P-57 could have been made into a night fighter with the addition of a rear seat. If the plane didn't work out, McDonnell could have been a second source of P-38 production (or third after Vultee). http://www.wpafb.af.mil/museum/research/p67.htm |
