    Mackay Trophy

My uncle was in the USAAC from the 20's -1947. He flew in many of the early "bombardment" aircraft from the original bi-wing B-1 "Keystone" through WW2 B-17s. He's long gone now, but told me stories of the YB-10 flight from Bolling Field, Washington, DC to Alaska and back in 1934, the goodwill missions from Langley Field to Buenos Aires (YB-17 in 193 and Santiago (XB-15 in 1939) and the famous interception with the Italian Liner Rex off the Virginia Coast by YB-17s in 1938, with LT Curtiss Lemay as the navigator. RIP Uncle Jeep, aka Russel E. Junior, you made your mark in aviation history.

    Prety cool!

My father in law won the Mackay Trophy in 1987. Insisted his detachment received it as a whole rather than individuals.
