Researching what aircraft would have used the ARC3 radio setup during and after WWII. If the Navy used this radio set, would they have called it something else?

Nope, the Navy was in fact the first to use the ARC designation, with the ARC-5, and they would have called it the ARC-3 as well. The ARC designation was part of a standardized nomenclature system and both replaced the SCR designation of the Army and the highly confusing system used by the Navy.

One has to be a little careful when using that pdf list from my website, as it came from an early 1943 radio training course. The full link is Navy aircraft radio compliment annex It contains aircraft types and radios only through late 1942, but none of the later JAN nomenclatured equipment that became the norm in 1943 and later.

The Army and Navy were quite insular when it came to radio equipment. The AN/ARC-3 was strictly a USAAF procured set, while the Navy initially used an AN/ARC-4 and then an AN/ARC-1 for their VHF comms needs. It was well after the war that the Services were forced to try and standardize on common equipment, and it took 7 or 8 years for Congress to get that far. The AN/ARC-27 and AN/ARC-21 were good examples of that...they were both type issued in 1945 but Service squabbling about requirements prevented their production until 1952!

Initial conversion from the SCR-522 and the AN/ARC-5 VHF sets began in June of 1945 in high value aircraft like the B-29. It wasn't until two or three years later that it had filtered down to the small boys like the P-51.
