| Frontal areas of WW2 aero engines I was wondering if anyone has any definitive figures on the frontal areas of various WW2 piston powered aero engines? All I can find are comparative figures (eg the Griffon has 6% greater frontal area than the Merlin. The Sabre had 24% greater frontal area than the Griffon) Also, frontal area per hp would be interesting for comparison. I know there are some USAAF and NACA documents comparing frontal drag rations and power/drag ratios for R-1830/R-2800/V-1710 engines out there, I just can't find them anymore... |
