How Rolls-Royce got into Jet Engines

Amusing anecdote explaining how Rolls-Royce 'entered the jet age'. It's important to remember that the original contract to produce Whittle's jet engine was won by the Rover Car Company, which had little or no experience with any form of aircraft engine. As Whittle remembers...'they (Rovers) struggled on for quite a long time and weren't getting anywhere.'
