The Spit XII would have had the metal ailerons and almost certainly the MkV, early mk V may not have had them. As for the Zero I suspect both are correct depending on the spedd you are going. At anything over 250mph te Zero turned like a brick as the ailerons almost seized up. However if you go for a slow speed combat the Zero will eat you alive. I wouldn't mind betting this would be the same reaction on the roll rate.
I don't disagree, but this graph begins at 160 mph IAS which isn't fast at all. 56 degrees per second at 160 mph IAS is an awfully slow roll rate. If you watch a few You-Tube videos, the zeros roll quite a bit faster than that. Though they may not be the same model, the roll rates didn't increase by that much as they evolved.
These look like 360 degree rolls in just under 3.5 seconds to me and I doubt Mr. Hinton is really pushing the aeroplane.
