So what is everyone's favorite B-17. For instance, my favorite is the B-17J, or any of the later versions with the nose gun touret.
Mine is the B-17G. She was the first old warbird I was on. It was the 70's and I was a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol, and we worked an airshow for the then "Confederate" Air Force. I believe she was the "Texas Raiders".
Whoa, you got to fly on a B-17G?? Really cool.
Lets see if we can get some life back into this interest group. As far as my favorite B-17 version, I'd have to go with the F model. Yes, I know that it was deficient in forward defensive fire power, but you just can't beat the lines of the F model Forts. This may sound like a strange comparison, but in my humble opinion the B-17F is the four engine heavy bomber equivalent of the Spitfire. You just can't beat those beautiful lines! I also go a chance to fly in a B-17G. A few years ago I had an opportunity to go up in the Liberty Bell. What a great experience! For anybody who is a B-17 fan, or just a fan of the classic warbirds of WW2, don't let an opportunity to take a flight in one of these if the chance comes your way. I promise you, you'll not regret it and you'll never forget it! Bob
My favorite is a B-17E, because of Old 666's story: Dogfights: Long Odds Part 2 - YouTube (Old 666 is about 8 minutes in) Dogfights: Long Odds Part 3 - YouTube I've also been inside another B-17, I think G model, called Nine 'O Nine.
B-17G all right!
My favorite would be the B-17G , As that is the one my uncle TSgt Joseph Rachunas was a Tailgunner on the "Mrs Geezil" when he was shot down on the April 13Th 1944 Schweinfurt mission. I had the great Honor of knowing Dewayne "Ben" Bennett and he told me this story. It is "The last Man Standing" It is the story of that day's mission. Ben was the wingman for 1stLt Fioretti the pilot of my Uncles plane. He told me he saw everything. 6 out of 7 B-17's of the 545th Bomb Squadron were shot down that day between 13:54 and 13:57 An Aviation Masterpiece & The Story Behind It
