    Advice on IJN campagin.

Hey guys, got a question for all Pacific Fighter fans. One of the campaigns I'm playing is the IJN Palau in 1944. I'm in the second mission, and I'm stuck. Our flight, seven A6M5c zeros, have to takeoff and defend the airfield from about twenty American fighters, ten hellcats and ten corsairs. I usually managed to shoot one down, but then I get ganged up on by three plus fighters. I try to use the zeros better manveurability by staying low and slow, but I only last for a few minutes before my plane gets shot down. If anybody has played this mission, and can give me some advice, I'm all ears, thanks.

I know it would be hard in a plane that is slower than both the Hellcat and Corsair, but maybe try Boom and Zoom tactics. Once you make a pass on a plane, extend out and see what the situation looks like. If your doing good, try it again. But once you loose total advantage, maybe its time to head home.

Beaus' got the right angle.... Pick ur fights, stay away from groups and go for the singles.... Boom and Zoom works with the Zero to an extent...

Okay, thanks, I'll try that out. I know I can outturn the F6F and the F4U, I'll just follow Beau's advice.

Well, played the mission today and managed to beat it. Shot down two corsairs too, thanks for the help.

I usually turn off instant success in my missions, it allows you to finish it even if you haven't completed the objectives. That's more true to life, and I would rather survive than keep losing the mission because I can't find the hidde objective. Also more likely one of the times trying to complete it you will get shot down, and that isn't so good.

I agree they have the instant success toggle figured wrong.
The default should be opposite to what it is IMO.

I usually finish the missions by landing my plane, but after trying the same one five times I got impatient.

Glad you finally finished it. I have my instant sucess turned off as well. I try to fly as close to realistic as possible. Would rather RTB and fight another day then get shot down and keep flying the same mission over and over lol.

Yeah, I forgot to switch instant success off, but I usually quit after I land my aircraft. Been trying a new IJA campaign with the KI-84, pretty solid fighter.

Nice to know that you're flying for the IJN as well. You need to choose your battles when your flying the Zero. In the missions that I've flown, I've had a better survival rate when I'm up against Hellcats instead of Corsairs. Just a quick question for the guys here who've flown the Zero against Hellcats and Corsairs: are Hellcats more easier to splash as compared to Corsairs?

Anyway, I try to avoid fights with Corsairs. I usually make my kills out of Hellcats escorting Avengers on bomb runs. Hope this helps!

Thanks, I find the F4U and the F6F the same, more or less. Both can outrun me, but I can outurn them at low speeds, and the A6M5C's armament does the job.

In the few times I have flown for the IJN, I find Corsairs easier to splash. For some reason the Hellcat is really difficult to bring down, they always have given me a hard time.

They both can take a heavy punishment, and are armed pretty well. I guess it depends who gets the drop first, me or them. I think for my IJN campaign, most of my kills are hellcats.

When I fly Zeros online at Zekes vs. Wildcats, I find the Hellcats easy to catch and hit but very tough to take down. And the Corsairs can't even be caught. They are too fast and tend to BnZ mostly.

I chased a Hellcat once and emptied evrything into it and he kept on flying. Minus alot of his parts but he survived. If the Corsair will dogfight and not extend out then you have a good chance of shooting him down.
