    eBay: Bell P-39 Airacobra

Probably the cannon is definitely not a 37mm and it even looks to small with my eyes to be a 20 mm. I have never heard of anyone putting a 50 cal or 30 cal in the nose. But think of all that extra ammo.

Or would they trash the bent prop and get a new one

    Ju-87 sirens

I believe is was speed activated as the Stuka dove the airspeed got the point where the Trumpet of Jericho was heard clearly. The Stuka was notoriously slow in level flight particularly with bombs and fuel loads. I remember watching a special on cable that over 300 miles and hour it started...

Can someone identify my grandfather's plane?

This looks like his trainer a T-6 Texan but did he ever fly with the Royal Air Force? T-6 Texan unless he flew with the RAF?

What fighter of 1939-40 could compete with fighters of 1944-45?

A Spitfire could compete especially if the pilot had 5 years in the seat.

Worst mass produced, monoplane, single-engine, single-seat, retractable undercarriage fighter of WW2?

Missle, that is really good info, I saw they carried a somewhat more sophisticated rocket than the other allies. If they could see a large formation and let loose a volley that is very believable.

Worst mass produced, monoplane, single-engine, single-seat, retractable undercarriage fighter of WW2?

The Bf 109 was from 1937, the Buffalo was 1939, 1935 is close but the Russians had a very long time to refine and improve the I 16. The I16 The Buffalo produced 40 Aces 32 Finns 8 British Commowealth pilots. 40 Aces compared to 509 units built per Wikipedia. That last number seems incredible...

Worst mass produced, monoplane, single-engine, single-seat, retractable undercarriage fighter of WW2?

If I had choice between having Buffalo's or no aircover at all I will take the Buffalo's anytime. But the Russian I16 with 4 .30 calibers, 335 max range, 291 mph top speed when brand new and no hours on the motor. 1 to 2 kill ratio now that is 2 lost for each kill. That is the worst fighter of...

P-39- Did the engine behind the pilot cause any problems?

It made the CG and spin characteristics different. Many pilots thought it was dangerous some used it to their advantage. The rear engine was vulnerable to a 6 o'clock attack but head to head the other guy was dead since the nose had two 50's and a 37mm made possible by a rear engine.

    F4F Wildcat

The limited bomb load as of 1941 was just 2 - 100lb bombs. That was just enough for an F4F to sink the Japanese destroyer Kisaragi. Alll hands on the Japanese destroyer died.. A huge event for the Marine Corp. Henry T. Elrod - Wikipedia

The efficiency of multiple crewmen in destroyer type fighters

YES indeed for the Mosquito was doing high range and very dangerous missions. Having a backup pilot and a second engine made survivability much higher. Really though the Me110 had no chance by June of 1940 in any dogfight but could do cleanup work on damaged planes, sea planes or old slow...
