Hi all and a Happy New Year.
I came across this unit some time ago ref # 5D/659. All in all it's the same as the 5D/656 for which there is a lot of info available but i can find next to nothing on this one. Basically the differences are that this unit is numbered 17 - 32 which leads me to...
Ha! I didn't think so myself. I just wanted to be sure before i took it all off in case it was for some top secret mission or suchlike and was worth a fortune the way it is. Thanks again!
All the best.

Hello all!
I've seen some of these panels before but not one like this. The mainstay belief is they were used in Lancasters but i think they were used in other aircraft aswell???
I think this one has had another career with light sockets, 2 pin plug inserts etc wired into it. If anyone knows...
Thanks for that information! I'll get in touch with them and see if they'll sell me a few. 'Just Jane' might be flying again by the end of the year. I live in Torbay and every year the 'Battle of Britain Memorial Flight' do a flypast. The Lancaster 'City of Lincoln' sounds absolutely amazing...
Good ideas there. Thanks for that. I will have to get a very small mirror in the unit and shine a torch on it because i can't see whether it's a screw thread on the bulb fitment or a push fitting. Trouble is i don't own a mirror that small! I'll have to do it another way.
Yes please! I wouldn't know where to get one. It's a 24 volt system. The only thing i can think of is maybe an old type truck or bus bulb. Even then i don't know what type..... I just know it's a 24 volt.
I thought you might like to see it now i've managed to get it apart. I shone a torch up through the lens see how it actually works. Sorry about the quality of the pic but it's the best i could manage holding a torch and the sight in one hand and the camera in the other.
I've sussed it! The lens unscrews at the base. I soaked it in wd40 last night and this morning put a lot more pressure on it than i would have liked and it came apart. There's no bulb in it so now to source a bulb.
Thanks all of you for your trouble and your time! Really appreciate it!

Yes i've taken them out. I've even taken the electrical wire retainer screws out. They're all about 1/4 of an inch long so no joy there. You can't really see it in the pic but by the bulb plate there is also another 'recess' which is round and it also has something sealed in it. If it's sealed...

forgot this one. There appears to be a 'grub screw' in the reflector housing but this appears to be sealed in.
Thanks again!
