    Alberta Military Model Show (2011)

Yesterday I attended the AMMS at the Militaty Museum here in Calgary. This is an impressive museum having recently combined exhibits from various locations in town in an expanded facility. Below are rather poor quality pics of the venue which took place in the naval hall.

This used to be strictly a show for armour but this year they opened it up to ships and aircraft. I entered 3 builds that have been featured here on the forums before: My He 219 Uhu (as one of the theme awards for this year was night fighters), my ICM Spitfire IX AE-B, and my FAA Hellcat. The format of the show was "open judging" meaning that each entry was judged on its own merit and awards were handed out accordingly. There was no 1st/2nd/3rd and it was possible for multiple golds to be handed out in any given category. At the end of the judging, the score sheets were handed back to the entrants and the results could be discussed with the judges who were happy to go over their findings and to suggest improvements. The exception was the night fighter category where, in addition to the open judging, placings were declared. In the end, I came away with a gold medallion for my Spit IX, a silver one for my Hellcat, and a silver for my Uhu. As well, the Uhu placed 2nd in the NF theme build. It got a 17 out of a possible 20 points with points having been deducted for thick paint (my squiggles did give me trouble in some areas), a "floating" seat belt buckle (didn't see that one coming), and excessive glue on the antenna mask (definitely).

The general qaultiy calibre of the entries was impressive and I took a lot of pics of what I saw to be some of the best. So, without further ado, I'll post them, starting with the night fighter that took first, this beautifully done Eduard 1/48Bf-110.

Great Pics Andy. Although the Bf110 is very good, personally I think the shading on the fuselage panel lines in particular, is out of keeping with the otherwise 'factory fresh' codes and other markings.

Yes, opinions abound on panel lines and their shading. This particular entrant was commended for his presentation of a monotone finish.

Great stuff Andy! That BF110 is excellent.

Wow. With the exception of the rudder roundel, that should have earned a commended for sure.

    I see diaromas!!!

I can't remember why I posted that. Nothing is wrong with the roundel.

And I was just kidding about the dioramas. I can wait.
