Good news from Airfix.

I've just spotted some interesting 'Future Releases' on the Hannant's web site, all from Airfix. There's a possibility/probability that the first one listed is a re-issue, long overdue. I don't know if some are re-boxings of other companies products, or brand-new Airfix kits, but the likelyhood is brand new. All good stuff for 1/48th and 1/72nd scale modellers.

There were a few other bits and pieces, such as a large-scale Harrier GR3, but I thought the above would be enough to spark some interest.

Taking your picture with your face in it into consideration you don't have to refresh your box.Looking very good. Maybe hair...but.. no , no .. all is OK with them.Standard in our age.


Oh yes these 1/76 models.Jeez ..do you remember these of Frog kits? P-47 enlarged to its 1/1 scale would be better armoured that panzer King Tiger or Mouse. HMS Rodny would be better only. .

Cor Blimey! That's all bringing back memories! Remember the original Frog Spitfire Mk1, with solid wings, and the wheel wells just as engraved outlines, with a reccomendation to paint them black?! What a lump - but at the time it was the only 1/72nd scale Mk1 around, and looked great with its two other Flight members, lined up on my grass airfield. OK, it was a slightly hairy, ex-WW2 Army blanket, on top of the dining table, but to me it was Hornchurch and Biggin Hill, all rolled into one!
And those Spits could take off and land in a scale distance of about 60 metres!!

You know.... all this nostalgia has given me an idea. We all must be fairly contemporary..


What about a 1974 build?


Making a kit where the molds date from that era (or thereabouts) using only the equipment that was available in your teenage years? Or more accurately tools you could afford as a teenager way back then?

Interesting if thise first couple in 1/48 are new kits, quite possible they might be Hasegawa re-pops....guess we will see!

Heck man, that's what I'm doing now! Most of the kits I've done in the last few months at least have dated from the 1970's, and apart from the airbrush (first one purchased in 1978, when I was er...hang on, trying to remember...er..29), the tools are the same as I had in the early 1960's - in fact,Ii think some of them are the same tools! And I still use a paintbrush at least 50% of the time, and purchase wheel or canopy masks? What the **** for?!!!
Good idea though - see how the current 'Microwave Modelling' gang fair with a basic kit, which was state of the art in the '70's, but regarded as crude these days, and what? No PE, resin and no interior detail??!!
BTW 'Microwave Modelling' is my comparison with people who can't cook.... even bacon - stick it in the 'Ding Box', wait for the 'ding', then open the packaging and eat! Ask them where milk comes from, and they'd reply 'Tesco's'!!!

Crossing posts Wayne.My first thought was re-boxings. But, Airfix had a (then) very good Ju87 B back in the late 70's early 80's, and they've just released the Spit IX etc, so maybe new Airfix toolings? Whatever, I've been waiting for a 1/48th Spit XII for donkey's years, and don't know of a mainstream kit, apart from a now out of production resin and part injected offering, or conversion kits. Means I can get virtually the full line-up of Spits in 1/48th without paying silly money, and without going the 'convert 1/32nd scale' route and the associated space problems. Just need a reasonably priced Mk21 now!

Hmmm 1/72 scale plane, 2 tubes of glue, a 6" paintbursh and 3 bottles of paint - done in an hour -

Heck! Remember doing that one as my mate's rally car, and then the Escort Mk1 as my rally car. Long wait for my birthday though - it's every four years! Got my age wrong in '78 too - must be the wee drams!!
