Country: | Kinda wondering about the gloss finish on ur Val Wayne.... Is she supposed to be brand new???
I like the Il2, but it seems awfully clean with no chipping or filth.... I guess its because it was shot down 2 days after being recieved by her crew....

Country: | Early Japanese aircraft were painted with a gloss paint to help protect them from corrosion. Also the Carrier groups were the elite of the Japanese Navy and their aircraft were kept in near perfect condition to reflect their status.
Now, the paint was applied in Oct 41 towards the end of their training for the Pearl Harbor attack, shortly thereafter they were stowed back aboard the carriers for their trip to Northern Japan to rendezvous with the rest of the attack fleet and then headed off to Hawaii for the PH attack.
The aircraft were now well protected from the elements and kept in their 'new' condition....
I can't vouch for the stormovik's condition, however!

And Dan, not always the Russian planes looked like the scrap-metal.

Country: | Just a question, but was there some sort of interrupter on the rear gun of the IL2 or for that matter any rear gun firing ahead of the vertical stab of any plane? If not, I would guess the rear gunner would have to keep his wits about him so as not to shoot his own tail off!! |

Country: | An interrupter for the rear gun - I haven't heard about the kind of device used on Il-2 so far.
