Scumbag goes down for 18-month stretch

A charity worker who stole more than £145,000 from the estates of two Second World War veterans has been jailed for 18 months.

Harry Butcher and George Carroll both left instructions that any legacy should go to the charity that had helped look after them. After their deaths at the Amberley Lodge Care Home in Purley, Surrey, the estates were handled by Susan Platt, 59, a facilities manager with Combat Stress, who paid the money to herself.



Platt, of New Haw, Surrey, admitted obtaining the money by deception.
