    Guitar solos...

Being one that sometimes wonder what they're good for and for what purpose they're in a particular song/tune or whatever you wanna call them...

Here's a question for you lot that most likely know more about this than I do, which would you say are the 10 greatest guitar solos ever?

Not a fan of guitar solos as such but give me a pair of duelling banjos anyday.

Crossroads by Cream with Eric Clapton.

    Red House - Jimi Hendrix

Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson (OK, this one is an instrumental and the whole thing is just one long Guitar solo).

Hideaway by the Bluesbreakers, again with Eric Clapton (seems to be a theme with E.C. and instrumentals).

Voodoo Chile, Slight Return - Jimi Hendrix

    Any Lynyrd Skynyrd song!!!

A 2006 study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that Americans drink an average of 22 gallons of beer a year. That means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles per gallon.

Hmm lets see, I am going to have to think about this one. Going to be tough. There are just so many great solos out their!

I for one am a big fan of them, and think that it is something that is missing from a lot of music today.

Joe Brown (probably only known to those of us "of a certain age,") but he could play anything from rock to classics to "All Things Bright and Beautiful" (which he got into the top ten.) If you get a chance, listen to the Czardas, by Monti (usually played on a violin,) which is lightning fast, then imagine it played on a guitar, with the player doing the rendition with the guitar on the back of his neck, and remaining note perfect.

My favourite and most under rated guitar solo? The one played by John Perry of The Only Ones in that classic number "Another Girl Another Planet". Check it out.
Top ten? most have already been mentioned.

Many of my favorites, although as a real Brian May fan I would change the Bohemian rhapsody solo into the echoplex solo of Brighton Rock:

BTW, found this one great. What if Eddy van Halen's Erruption was written by Brian May:
