Country: | Great lists Adler! I like the majority of those bands in one respect or another. I like most rock except for this new Brit-Indie rock trash thats all over the radio these days. These are my favourite 8 bands in some sort of order...Obviosuly there are loads of other stuff that I love but these are the 8 that really stand out for me. 1] Alter Bridge
2] Evanescence
3] Something Corporate
4] Jack's Mannequin
5] Brand New
6] From First to Last
7] Muse
8] A Perfect Circle

Country: | Alter Bridge - Sure like that one tune, I'll say. One Day Remains or some such. Vocals, guitar work, harmonies, lyrics. Has it all.
What about...
Kansas
Jimmy Hendrix
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Steve Vai
Joe Walsh
Max Webster
Yes
Styx
Steve Miller
Eric Clapton
Clutch
David Bowie
And laugh all you want...Devo
Robert Johnson
Jethro Tull
BTO
Foreigner (early stuff like their first and second album only)
Marillion
Nazareth
Police (early albums only)
Ted Nugent
ZZTop

| Something smells vintage in here huh?
Not that i say your choices are wrong but i belong in the second era of post apocalyptic industrialized phase of music.
Lanc: that was a good song.

BTW how come angus young isn't in any of your guitarist lists?
(I also forgot to mention I have Metallica - The videos 1989 - 2004 DVD)

Country: | Angus is good. He's like Neil Young. A master of the three note guitar solo. King of chords.
And best rock singer...ever. Chris Cornell. Hands down. Plant is not even close.
My list was retro only because Adlers was so well done. I don't want to steal his thunder. But for those who really wish to broaden their horizons, what about blues and jazz.
Count Bassie
Lee Ritenour
Jeff Beck
Okay laugh again...Sarah McLaughlin
or Bad Company (c'mon not in the top 20?)
80s band...Krokus
Satchmo (Louis Armstrong)
...man I could go on and on.
And so who likes classical? Not ready for that leap yet I suppose.

Country: | If you guys haven't heard of Rusty Cooley, go to YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. and check him out. He is faster than hell and almost technically perfect. Also if you haven't heard of Paul Gilbert, do a search for him too. He will blow you away. |

Country: | Certainly impressive technically. But hard to tell if he has ability to integrate his speed skills with other aspects important to good music. I'll definitely keep and ear out for him though.
And good songs to recommend to look for Thor?

Country: | I love Aerosmith. I like Deep Purple to, and all those, but I've never heard of the last two on the heavy metal list though.

Country: | Iced Earth is one of the best "old school" Thrash bands out. They started back in the 1980s under the lead of guitarist John Schaffer. There songs have lots of meaning to them and very good technical skill. Most of there albums are epic albums that tell a story.
John Shaffer is a big history buff, especially US History. Therefore he decided to right an Album that was dedicated to history called "The Glorious Burden". This was the last album they put out a few years ago. Each song tells a tale of a historical figure or event such as the Revolutionary War, the Red Baron, a dedication to 9-11, and culminates in a 36 minute song about the Battle of Gettysburg broken down into 3 parts as if they were 3 songs with each one telling the events of each day. Done extremely well with an orchestra and the sounds of battle in the background and with the dialogue of the generals that commanded the battle.
Here is the tracklisting of this last album:
Disc 1:
1 - The Star-Spangled Banner
2 - Declaration Day
3 - When the Eagle Cries
4 - The Reckoning (Don?t Tread On Me)
5 - Greenface
6 - Attila
7 - Red Baron/Blue Max
8 - Hollow Man
9 - Valley Forge
10 - Waterloo
11 - When the Eagle Cries (Unplugged)
Disc 2 - Gettysburg (1863):
1 - The Devil to Pay
2 - Hold At All Costs
3 - High Water Mark
Here is the website for Iced Earth. They are currently working on another epic album as a part 2 to an album they release in the 90s. www.icedearth.com
Mercyful Fate is Heavy Metal band from Denmark. The band began its rise back in 1981 and were headed by King Diamond. I am sure you all have heard of King Diamond. They were considered one of the first Black Metal bands and have influenced other bands such as Metallica. Metallica has even covered several of there songs and plays some of there songs sometimes in concert. Lars Ulrich the drummer for Metallica also has played drums for them in the studio on several occasions.
The 5 songs that they are probably most known for are Satans Fall, Curse of the Pharoes, A Corpse Without Soul, Into the Coven, and Evil.
