Country: | Just a question about Drill Instructors: It sounds like an odd question, but are drill instructors nowdays allowed to swear at their recruits? I think they still do, from several videos I have seen, like "ears open. eyeballs click. 2005" You can hear it. And that films recent.
But I have seen several articles that say drill sergeants, ect. now can no longer curse recruits like they used too several years ago. Is this really a rule, or is it a "blind eye" kind of one? Surviving Marine Corps Basic Training Quote: |
Drill instructors are not supposed to use profanity, nor are they allowed to physically touch a recruit (other than for safety reasons, such as on the weapon's range).
| Of course one time in a wartime memories book I remember reading that a sergeant wasn't allowed to curse a soldier. This was after boot camp, and it was WWII and the British army. They said it was because he was an NCO and not a commisioned Officer.
After boot camp, a soldier can still get cursed by his superiors, right?
Take this video. This instructor knocks this guy over. Couldn't that happen today? drill instructor
Maybe that's fake. But this isn't. YouTube - USMC Drill instructors training Recruits-Christmas Time YouTube - Senior Drill Instructor A$$ Chewing YouTube - Drill Instructors meet poolees YouTube - Crazy Drill Instuctor YouTube - Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego
Interesting to see how mad they get, but I tip my hat to all the guys who lived with drill sergeants.

One time I remember in the chow hall one guy was taking his gortex off more slowly than this GySgt liked - so he's screaming in the middle of the chow hall about why he's taking his gortex off all slowly trying to be sexy and turn him on - he just went on and on.

Country: | Have drill sergeants always been this nasty? I mean, throughout history, have there ever been such DI's as the Marines have in numbers, that scream their lungs out incoherently? When did the "ambush", come into being? Because it sure looks crazy, all these DI's screeching.
Fearing them is the goal more than respecting them it seems like. But those DI's seem to treat ya more like an enemy more than a subordinate.
Is it because they are frustrated having to stick to their mouths, and not their fists?
(though I imagine that can happen as well. )

Country: | Its all about breaking you down and then building you back up. I actually thought the stuff they would scream was rather funny. I had good laughs during Basic Training. I actually wonder if it is part of Drill training that takes them through stand up comedy school. I guess I will have to ask my father.

Country: | "Bouncing together as a platoon" is nice compared to what you here them scream out back in the US.

Country: | That brings back memories. I was in basic back in the 70s when the Army tried intergrating the females in the male platoons during basic training. Those were happy times my friends.... |
