    Photos to be clearly sourced

    Friends,

From now on, I want all photos to be as clearly sourced as possible by using the tags under the image.

This site is for research, teaching and the enjoyment of its members that means that we must respect others intellectual property and copy rights.

None of us wants this site to be closed so please, SOURCE your photos and yes, IMO, a note that you have been unable to find a source can be acceptable, at least it shows you've looked.

What about photo's for which I no longer have the source from which I obtained them? I have literally thousands of aircraft photos collected over the years, and normally I don't save the source.

Also, it's my understanding that unless a photo includes a copyright notice on the photo, publishing it to the web makes it public domain. And I think even that is somewhat disputable - even if it's got a copyright notice on it publishing it to the internet (vs. an intranet) may make public domain since it has established a value of $0 for the image, unless it's a tradmarked image.

I try hard to source most things. I will try to source images from now on, but I'm concerned about what to do about those that are already in my collection?

Finally, will making the image clickable to take the viewer to the source site be sufficient? This will avoid extra text which might disrupt the flow of the post. The following example works

Click on the image, it should take you to the front/home page for the WWII Message Board.

    The format is:

    {url=http://www.whatever.net}{img}http://www.imagesourcesite.com/image.jpg{/img}{/url}

using square brackets instead of curly brackets.

if you're not sure about it's source, simply put for example

    "Source- unknown"

just as long as it's obvious you are not claiming it as your own.......

There's an example of a photo hyperlink... (That's the B-17 that's been flying over Torrance recently)

And this is what the text to make that link should look like:

Yes sir. But I don't use that many photos to begin with.

    Photos to be clearly sourced

    Greetings,

I have seen some photos from my site (1000aircraftphotos.com) on this and other discussion boards and just wanted to say that you are all more than welcome to use them in discussions and invite you all to visit the site. We have many hundreds of different types of aircraft pictured there from all over the world.

I've been told that we have a good policy describing the issue of copying photos from the site and thought you might enjoy reading it. It does, I think, provide a reasonable expectation concerning copying photos and sourcing them. Let me know what you think.

That is very reasonable Ron. I have been to your site many times over the years when looking for photos that I don't find in other places.
