    Storm over Kokoda

Storm over Kokoda by Peter Ewer is about the initial campaigns fought by the RAAF in the first half of 1942 in New Guinea. It deals with the gallant but costly operations flown by RAAF Catalina and Hudson crews in the early days, up to and including the defence of Port Moresby by 75 squadron. This last topic takes up the bulk of the book, but doesn't really offer anything new on the subject for those already familier with 75 sqn's actions. However to those unfamilier with this theatre and the RAAF's early defence, the reader will learn of such men as John Lerew, the Jackson brothers, Pedrina, Whetters, Cohen and Bob Crawford - men well know in RAAF history for their gallant deeds against the elite Tainan Kokutai. The book is written in an easy to read style that keeps your interest right up to the last page and is recommended as a starting point for those unfamilier with this topic.

If you haven't read about Kokoda, I would highly recommend it, folks. In the air and on the ground, the diggers fight with courage and tenacity. Like Britain being the sole holdout in Europe, Australia was pretty much the last holdout against the Japanese onslaught in the south Pacific.
