The island that some say brought Russia to its knees

The Billion-Dollar Shack - New York Times

Nauru - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interesting article from the New York Times, very long so I won't post it. So much mafia money was laundered in this tiny Pacific island of Nauru that the journalist makes the case that it has ruined Russia, among other things.

"I had ten rockets on board, and as I wasn't particularly fond of head-on attacks, I salvoed the whole lot at him. The rockets didn't hit him but but they must have scared the bejesus out of him, for he did a steep turn to starboard... I let him have the full blast, all eight fifty-calibers. I had never seen an aircraft completely disintegrate in the air the way this Me-110 did..."

I just read the whole story.... and it is quite a story. Seventy billion dollars
washed clean... for a price. Wonder what would happen if a big typhoon
would put that island in it's crosshairs ?

I really was impressed an island of that size and population could be such a big factor in the global economy. Funny how things work, isn't it?
