Ya know, I pride myself on being able to eat just about anything at least once.........but, uh.......No, not that.

I also wont try tripe, most organs, any bug, and rocky mountain oysters.

Having toured an Oscar Mayer plant in High School, I swore off hot dogs for years. I will eat one occasionally now, but not very often. When I went through survival school, you learn what is and what is not edible, and what things taste like. Believe me though, if you are hungry enough, you will eat just about anything.

I got to go to a slaughterhouse for my eigth grade class trip.
Correction, I was forced to go because it was the class trip.

To help you make some sense of this I lived in a small farming community in Illinois at the time.
Population 1,000.
Suffice it to say not everyone left with their lunch where it was when they walked into the building.
I couldn't eat hamburgers for a long time after that memorable trip.

hotdogs and balogna are made from "meat byproduct"...which translates to everything from chicken lips to pig sphincters.

As horrible as that sounds, ya' just can't beat a 'dog right off the BBQ!

I'll take a bratwurst over a hot dog any day though. Whereabouts in Illinois, Wheels? I grew up in a small farming community in Wisconsin, Muskego.

What a waste of a good worm! Much better to squeeze out the earth etc, chop and dry, then boil in an infusion. Very nutrituous - taste like s**t, but nutrituous!

Lived in a few places within about 20 miles from each other or less.

Cantrall, IL Pop. 100 when I lived there I believe.
Went to school here in the 1st, 2nd and 5th grade.
I lived right across the street from the school.
No skipping because the teachers would come and get you.
I got bussed here from the Springfield area for 5th grade.

Athens, IL
Went to school here in the 3rd, 4th, 6th-8th grades.
Bussed to Athens for 6th and 7th grade then we moved into a house during the summer between 7th and 8th we had built as a family.
Lived in it through the 8th grade and then moved to CA for High Shool.

Family moves were from Cantrall to Athens to just oustside Capital Airport Springfield back to Athens.
Luckily all were in the same school district so the people I knew from each move remembered me.

Not sure why, but Cantrall sounds familiar. We had family on my dad's side in a bunch of little towns in Illinois.

That would be an almost unbelievable coincidence if you had family near Cantrall.
I have family in the Effingham, Springfield, and Peoria areas, some in small towns like you say and others in the "city" proper.
I laugh about that now when I think the cities are all under 150,000 people.

Now you guys are getting real close to where my stepdad was raised. He lived in a sprawling metropolis named El Paso until he joined the Marine Corps.

He still owns the family farms (one on El Paso, the other in Arrowsmith), and I've been back there several times over the years.

Starting to sound more an more like old home week GG.
My uncle worked at Caterpillar for over 40 years.
He still lives in Peoria.

The other big industry back there is the RailRoad and I have some uncles and cousins who are working for them.
