Lucas Hires Ridley to Tell Red Tails
Variety reports that Star Wars creator George Lucas has hired screenwriter John Ridley to pen the script for Red Tails, Lucas' WWII action adventure about the Tuskegee Airmen to be financed and produced through Lucasfilm.

The film is about a group of African-American fighter pilots who had to overcome racism and the color barrier to become the Tuskegee Airmen, the legendary first African-American pilots in U.S. military history. (The planes were distinguished by their red-painted tails, hence the title.)

According to the Variety story, Lucas hired Ridley after reading L.A. Riots, the Universal/Imagine drama Ridley wrote for director Spike Lee, and Ridley has already met some of the surviving pilots at a Texas convention.

ILM will be handling the effects to make the airborne fight sequences more realistic.

I sure hope this is not one of those phoney WW 2 aviation histories in reproduction and that truthfully the red tails did their duty like everyone else, a great record not allowed or were not at a point where they could free lance or have the opportunity to engage the LW on a daily basis like many in the 15th AF and the 8th AF groups. guess we wait

Let's just hope we don't hear the myth about never losing a bomber to enemy fighter opposition on their escort missions. Think that's been discussed here in the past.

Gawd, I hope ur wrong but I think your prediction will come to fruition

I'm not fans of Lucas or Speilberg.
I hope they're able to present some interesting, fresh angles. The Tuskegee story is well know and oft ballyhooed. I feel like I've seen the movie already!

If we need more African American hero movies, I'd like to see one about "The Red Ball Express". They did a great job keeping the supply line moving. I'm sure there a few interesting stories that could be gleaned.
