I wonder if once the soldier realized it was just a brick, he got revenge

the german was too scared to realize anything, also the guy who trows the brick, the english soldier, was very scared.

Curious footage... the soldier with the rifle looks like a calvary trooper in parade dress...

High boots with pants tucked in.
belt over the uniform
long sleeves buttoned down.
Helmet strapped on
Clean

poorly trained too

if you pay attemption in the scene youll se that when the brick hits the germanīs helmet, instinctively he push the trigger and runs scared, the british scared by the shot, crawl back.

the 3 stooges wouldnt make better

True but I'm sure I've seen this before (and talked about it) and the "rock" is dubbed in on top of something else possibly a grenade or something else. Still would scare the sh*t out of me too.

I think I can answer both questions regarding why he ran when hit in the helmet with a thrown object AND why his uniform is so tight.

Puckerfactor. There is probably a yard of cloth up that soldiers backside. I know there would be in mine.
