    Whoa... quake...

Just recently felt a real big heave for only a few seconds, but it moved the house about a bit. The noise echoed through the valley for a bit longer, like the roar of a freight train in the distance...

Just looked on Geonet (natural disaster website) and there was a 5.7 quake, 60 kms down off the north east coast of the South Island at around 7:20pm. It's now just after 8pm. Sure felt big; we are at least 100 ks west of the quake's epicentre.

We're all a bit jittery here in NZ since the Christchurch earthquakes over the last year.

I don't mind the small ones during the day, but I don't like them at night!

Well, there seems to have been a bit of damage in some places and the capital Wellington got shaken up a bit. A small town where I used to live felt it quite severely since its only 30 ks from the epicentre. Apparently it was the worst quake to hit this area since the '60s! It pales in magnitude to those in Chch, though.
